San Juan is the capital and biggest city of Puerto Rico. It is an unincorporated territory of the United States and is officially called “Municipio de la Ciudad Capital San Juan Bautista” (Municipality of the Capital City of Saint John The Baptist). The area was first settled by Spanish colonists in 1521, who named the city “Ciudad de Puerto Rico” (Rich Port City). Within the Americas, San Juan it is the second oldest European-established city, behind only the Dominican Republic’s Santo Domingo.
