Premier League preview and odds: West Ham United vs Manchester City

February 1 , 2017 19:45pm - London Stadium

Premier League

West Ham United will look to continue their climb up the Premier League table when they welcome fifth-ranked Manchester City to the London Stadium on Wednesday might. The visitors themselves can draw level on points with Liverpool with a win.

Hammers revival continues

A run of five wins in seven Premier League matches has lifted West Ham United up the 11th place in the table. Not so long ago, the Hammers were candidates for relegation but now they are well on course for a comfortable mid-table finish.

Slaven Bilic`s men seem to have finally turned a corner but there will be no time for complacency with more than a third of the season still to play.

The Londoners have won three of their last four at home and did not conceded a goal in any of those victories. However, their last two home encounters against top six sides both ended in defeat.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have won just one of their last four Premier League matches and have slipped out of the top four as a result. Away from home, they were beaten on both of their recent trips to Merseyside and failed to score a goal in either game.

Pep Guardiola`s men cannot improve on their current league position due to their inferior goal difference, but they can draw level on points with fourth-ranked Liverpool with a win on Wednesday.

Team news

The home side will be without the injured group of Mark Noble (ankle), Angelo Ogbonna (knee), Alvaro Arbeloa (knock), Arthur Masuaku (knee), Diafra Sakho (hamstring strain) and Gokhan Tore (quadriceps strain), while Andy Carroll (tight groin) is still a doubt.

Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan (knee) is missing for the visitors, while top scorer Sergio Aguero remains a slight doubt after picking up a knock.

Betting odds and tips

A resurgent West Ham United against a wobbling Manchester City should make for an interesting game. City’s away games have a habit of producing a few goals with six of their last seven serving up three or more goals.
