Athletic Club are still in the hunt for the Europa League qualification places, while Wednesday`s opponents Deportivo La Coruna are stuck in mid-table after ten-game winless streak.
One defeat in nine at home for Athletic Club
Athletic Club de Bilbao were beaten at home for the first time in nine matches when they fell 1-0 to Basque Country rivals Real Sociedad just over a week ago. They bounced back from that defeat by strolling to a 3-1 win away to Valencia last weekend.
Prior to the Basque derby defeat, only Real Madrid and Barcelona had won at San Mames in the league this term. Ernesto Valverde`s men are just three points behind fifth-ranked Sevilla and sixth-ranked Celta de Vigo who currently occupy the Europa League qualification positions.
Depor have forgotten how to win
Deportivo La Coruna have not won any of their last 10 games in La Liga, and have failed to win any of their last six on the road. However, thanks to an unusually high tally of drawn matches (14), the Galician club are still safely nestled in a mid-table position. In fact, only the top four have lost fewer matches than Victor Sanchez`s men.
A third of their defeats came in the last two games when they were beaten 1-0 at home to Granada and 1-0 away to Espanyol. Away from home, they have been beaten just three times all season.
Team news
The home side will have to make do without the services of Ibai and Inaki Williams who are both injured..
Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Juan Dominguez, Cani, Sidnei and Fabri.
