Premier League preview and odds: Liverpool vs Manchester City
March 02, 2016 19:45pm - Anfield Stadium
Premier League
Liverpool will have the chance to exact some sort of revenge on Manchester City following their Capital Cup final defeat when the teams meet once again for this Premier League clash at Anfield on Wednesday.
Reds out to scupper City`s title hopes
Liverpool still have an outside chance of grabbing fifth place in the Premier League, and can improve their chances by defeating Capital One Cup winners Manchester City on Wednesday. As well as giving their own European qualification hopes a boost, the Reds could also thrust a spoke through the wheel of City`s title ambitions.
Jurgen Klopp has admitted that a tough fixture schedule and a string of injuries has prevented him from fully implementing his ideas since arriving at the club. However, the 18-time league champions have shown glimpses of what might be to come under the German.
The Merseyside club will have to pick themselves up after losing the League Cup final on a penalty shootout at the weekend. A win against their victors would certainly provide some tonic for their recovery.
Trophy joy for City
Manchester City bagged their second League Cup in three years with their win over Liverpool on Sunday. They can now turn their attentions back to the Premier League, where they have fallen behind in the race for the title.
Manuel Pellegrini`s men are nine points behind leaders Leicester City, although they do have a game in hand. However, that could count for little if they fail to pick up all three points on Wednesday.
The Sky Blues have won just two of their last nine league matches on the road, but both of those wins came in their last three away games.
Team news
The home side will be monitoring Mamadou Sakho ahead of this game after he picked up a head injury in Sunday`s cup final. Players who are definitely not available include Kevin Stewart, Jordan Rossiter, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez.
Meanwhile, the visitors are still without Fabian Delph, Kevin de Bruyne and Samir Nasri.
