Watford vs Sunderland - Premier League preview and odds
April 01, 2017 15:00pm - Vicarage Road Stadium
Premier League
Watford will look to shove Sunderland even closer to the drop when the two side meet at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
Outlook bleak for MoyesÂ’ men
Last season, Sunderland pulled off a great escape under the guidance of motivator-in-chief Sam Allardyce. This season, however, the team from the northeast seem far from motivated as they head towards the relegation precipice.
Each passing week seems to bring the Black Cats a step closer to the inevitable end. And with seven points now separating them from 17th-ranked Swansea City, they need to take advantage of their game in hand to stand any chance of performing a great escape.
This weekend gives them a great opportunity to grab some points as they face an injury-ravaged Watford side that have only earned one point from their last four games.
Walter Mazzarri`s men are still not safe themselves but do have an eight point cushion over the bottom three. Even so, they will be keen to put another three points on the board this weekend.
The Hornets enjoyed a bright start to the campaign but poor form and injuries have taken their toll as the season has worn on. However, they are just two points adrift of 10th place with a game in hand on the teams above them
Team news
Watford will hand a late fitness test to Troy Deeney but Valon Behrami (hamstring strain), Ben Watson (groin strain), Mauro Zarate, Christian Kabasele (calf strain) and Roberto Pereyra (muscular) will all sit this one out.
Meanwhile, Lamine Kone (knee), Steven Pienaar (calf strain), Victor Anichebe (knee), Jan Kirchhoff (cartilage), Duncan Watmore (ACL), Paddy McNair (knee) and Lee Cattermole (hip) make up the visitorsÂ’ sick list.
Recent form (League)
Watford: LLDLW
Sunderland: DLLLW
Betting odds and tips
With Watford in poor form and suffering from fresh injury problems, a battling Sunderland side led by England hero Jermain Defoe might just grab a point from this game.
