The Saints will be looking to bounce back from their midweek League Cup hammering at the hands of Liverpool, when they face rock-bottom Aston Villa at St. Marys Stadium on Saturday.

Saints rocked by Reds rout

After losing away from home in the league for the first time last week, Southampton suffered a further blow to their confidence on Wednesday when they were beaten 6-1 on home soil in the League Cup by a rampant Liverpool side. That was their third defeat in a row in all competitions.

After losing their last two league matches, Ronald Koeman´s team have fallen to 10th place in the table and are now losing touch with the European qualification places. They have a chance to resuscitate their season this weekend when they face the league`s bottom-ranked team.

Villa still cut adrift

Aston Villa have lost 11 and drawn 2 of their last 13 matches and remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table. However, a recent draw against Man City, and a competitive showing in last weekends match against Watford, have provided a couple of breadcrumbs of hope for the Villa faithful. However, they still remain seven point short of the safety zone with an inferior goal difference.

The Saints will be hoping that key player Jose Fonte is back in action for this game. Meanwhile, Villa could be back to full strength if Micah Richards and Gabriel Agbonlahor recover in time.
