Premier League preview and odds: Southampton vs West Ham United
February 04 , 2017 15:00pm - St. Marys Stadium
Premier League
Southampton and West Ham United will jostle for position in the Premier League when the two sides meet at St. Mary`s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Mid-table neighbours go head-to-head
Southampton come into this match having lost five of their last six Premier League matches. As a result, they have sunk to 12th place in the table just eight point above the drop zone. While, the risk of relegation maybe remote, Saints fans may will be hoping for a bit more that a bottom half finish this term.
Claude Puel`s men could leapfrog their opponents and break back into the top 10 with a win at the weekend. In their last home game, they cruised to a 3-0 win over Leicester City - a performance they will be keen to emulate on Saturday.
Meanwhile, West Ham United will be looking for a return to winning ways after falling 0-4 at home to Manchester City last time out. The Hammers had won two in a row prior to that game and looked to be finding some form.
On the road, they have lost just one of their last five (at Leicester) having also drawn at Liverpool and Manchester United and won at Swansea City and Middlesbrough. However, Slaven Bilics men have only kept one clean sheet on their travels.
Team news
The home side will have to manage without the services of Virgil van Dijk (ankle), Charlie Austin (dislocated shoulder), Alex McCarthy (hamstring strain), Jake Hesketh (ankle), Matt Targett (hamstring strain) and Jeremy Pied (knee), while Jay Rodriguez (ankle) and James Ward-Prowse (chest) are both doubtful.
Meanwhile, the visitors treatment room has also been busy with Havard Nordtveit (ankle), Angelo Ogbonna (knee), Alvaro Arbeloa (knock), Arthur Masuaku (knee), Diafra Sakho (hamstring strain) and Gokhan Tore (quadriceps strain) all out injured, while Andre Ayew has been away on international duty.
