Premier League preview and odds: Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth
March 05, 2016 15:00pm - St. James` Park Premier League
Bottom-three dwellers Newcastle will be hoping to maintain their steady home form when Premier League new boys AFC Bournemouth pay a visit to St James` Park on Saturday.
Newcastle looking for return on investment
Newcastle United spent more money than any other team in Europe during the January transfer window. However, with just 10 games of the season remaining, the Magpies are still stuck in the relegation zone and waiting for a return on their sizable investment.
The good news for fans of the Toon Army is that their home form has been good, with just two defeats in their last 10 games. Unfortunately, that has been cancelled out by six straight defeats on the road. In total, the Geordies have picked up just seven points on their travels this term.
Bournemouth sitting on eight-point cushion
Premier League debutants AFC Bournemouth moved a step closer to survival in midweek when they cruised to a 2-0 win over South Coast neighbours Southampton. That win lifted the Cherries to 15th place in the league table and opened up an eight-point gap between them and 18th-ranked Norwich City.
Eddie Howe`s men will be looking to extend their four-game unbeatem run away from home when they make the long journey north to face relegation battlers Newcastle. A win would virtually secure their status as a Premier League side for next season.
Team news
Steve McLaren will have to make do without Chancel Mbemba, Tim Krul, Gabriel Obertan and Curtis Good, while Kevin Mbabu remains doubtful.
Meanwhile the visitors will continue without Junior Stanislas, Callum Wilson and Tyrone Mings.
