West Bromwich Albion vs Crystal Palace - Premier League preview and odds

March 04, 2017 15:00 pm - The Hawthorns

Premier League

West Bromwich Albion will look to extend their unbeaten run to six games when they welcome relegation battlers Crystal Palace to the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

Baggies still pursuing seventh spot

West Bromwich Albion may have little left to play for in terms of silverware but they can still finish seventh in the league and that would represent a massive achievement for Tony Pulis and his men. A win this weekend would put them on 43 points (the same total that they achieved in the whole of last season) with 11 games still left to play.

The Baggies have been particularly dominant on home soil in recent weeks, having won seven of their last eight matches at the Hawthorns. Their only home defeats in their last 11 came against the two Manchester sides. Over the last eight games, only Everton and Manchester United have recorded more points than the Midland side.

Palace hoping revival is underway

After beating Middlesbrough by a single goal last week, Crystal Palace fans will be hoping that their push for survival has finally begun. Following their last victory (away to Bournemouth) they immediately slumped to back-to-back defeats at home to Sunderland (0-4) and away to Stoke City (1-0).

The Eagles have actually picked up more points away from home this season, with 12 of their 22 point coming on the road. They have conceded at least one goal in all but one of their away matches and have conceded the first goal in 73% of their fixtures, home and away.

Team news

Matt Phillips has a hamstring strain and will be missing for the home side, while Craig Dawson is recovering from concussion and remains a doubt.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to make do without Connor Wickham (knee ligament), Steve Mandanda (knee), Jonathan Benteke (meniscus) and Pape Souare (recovering from surgery), while Loic Remy (muscular, doubtful), Mathieu Flamini (muscular) and Bakary Sako (hamstring strain) are all doubtful.

Crystal Palace: WLLWL

Betting odds and tips

West Brom have a very good record against teams below them in the league, with their only defeat coming at Bournemouth back in September. As a result, they can be expected to prevail against a Crystal Palace side that has yet to convince under Sam Allardyce. The visitors have failed to find the net in six of their last nine games so the home win to nil looks very tempting.
