Europa League preview and odds: Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool
April 07, 2016 21:05pm - Signal-Iduna-Park
Europa League
In perhaps the most anticipated tie of the Europa League quarter-finals, Jurgen Klopp will lead his Liverpool side out against former club and tournament favourites Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund favourites to sink Klopp
Borussia Dortmund have some significant history with the English side, having beaten them 2-1 in the 1966 European Cup Winners Cup final in Glasgow. Since then, the clubs have only met twice in competitive competition (2001/02 Champions League group stage) with Liverpool winning won game and the other finishing in a draw.
Dortmund have won their last four Europa League games in a row, having eased past Porto and Tottenham, while conceding just one goal in the process. They have won six out of seven home ties, with their only defeat coming in the final group stage game against PAOK Athens.
Liverpool keen to re-live Euro glory
Liverpool may be underdogs in this game but they will be glad to be playing the second leg at Anfield. The English side have never lost a competitive match against a German side on home soil, having won 12 and drawn three of their 15 previous matches.
The Reds are one of three side yet to lose a game in this year`s tournament (along with Sparta Prague and Shaktar Donetsk - however, they have drawn 10 of their 15 games so far.
The Merseyside team come into this game on the back of an entertaining 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Team news
Llkay Gundogan and Neven Subotic are both doubtful for the home side.
Meanwhile, the visitors are without Christian Benteke, Lucas Leiva, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez, while Jordan Rossiter, Roberto Firmino and Kevin Stewart are both doubtful.
