In a rare Friday night outing for the Premier League, two team still with plenty to play for go head to head as relegation-threatened Southampton host title hopefuls, Liverpool.

Since Ralph Hussenhuttl took charge of Southampton in December, the club have an equal ninth-best points tally in the league. A run of seven wins, three draws and six defeats has lifted them out of the drop zone but they are far from safe yet. With seven games left to play, the South Coast side are just five points above 18th-ranked Cardiff City, although their superior goal difference gives them a further edge.

A poor run of results could see them dragged back into the mire so they will hope to make it three wins on the bounce when they host Liverpool on Friday night. The Saints have won three of their last four in the league including a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur and have only lost one of their last five on home soil - although that defeat did come against lowly Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will hope to move back to the top of the table with title rivals Manchester City not playing until a week Sunday. Jurgen Klopps come into this game on the back of a dramatic 2-1 home win over Tottenham Hotspur in which they grabbed a late winner to keep their title hopes alive. That was their third win in a row and their 11th unbeaten since their defeat at Manchester City at the beginning of January.

The Reds have more points that they have ever achieved at this point of the season so missing out on the title would be a real blow. However, they will need Manchester City to slip up at some point if they are going to win their first title in 29 years.

The Saints last five home games have all featured two or three goals. This combined with Liverpool`s relative shyness in front of goal in league matches away from home in 2019 makes the 2-3 goal outcome look tempting.
