Chelsea and Ajax will wrestle for control of Group H when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. In their last encounter in the Netherlands back in October, it was the English side who came out on top by a single goal.

Frank Lampards men got off to the worst possible start in the Champions League losing 1-0 at home to Valencia before winning their next two games away to Lille (1-2) and Ajax (0-1) to move to the top of the group thanks to the head-to-head rule. Defeat on Tuesday could leave them in third place if Valencia beat Lille in Spain.

The Blues also had a slow start to their Premier League campaign but have since found their feet and are currently positioned fourth in the table, level on points with third-ranked Leicester City.

Ajax reached the semi-finals of this competition last season and were on course for a final showdown with Liverpool before a second-half semi-final collapse against Tottenham Hotspur shattered their dreams. They are unbeaten in the Eredivisie this season and are six points clear at the top of the table with 12 games played.

Remarkably, they have not lost any of their last 13 matches away from home in the Champions League despite playing the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Benfica and Tottenham Hotspur in that spell.

Betting odds and tips

Ajaxs incredible away record in this competition could come into play again here. They were narrowly beaten by Chelsea in their own backyard and that result would have hurt them. They will look to take revenge here and arrive in great form having lost just one of their last 23 matches in all competitions.

Chelsea are odds-on but Ajax are strong on the road and could spring a surprise here. They look good value at 3/1 to win the match but the Ajax/Draw Double Chance bet provides a little more security with prices of around Evens or better available.
