La Liga preview and odds: Sporting Gijon vs Athletic Club
March 06, 2016 18:15pm - Estadio Municipal El Molinon
La Liga
Sporting Gijon will try to break a five-game winless run in La Liga when they play host to Basque Country giants Athletic Club at El Molinon on Sunday.
Sporting in relegation fight
With just 11 games left to play, Sporting Gijon are stuck in a relegation battle. They have won just two of their last 13 games and are currently sitting in 19th place, two points adrift of safety. On home soil, Los Rojiblancos are winless in four games.
Last time out, Abelardo`s men fell 2-0 away to relegation rivals Granada, they now face the difficult challenge of picking themselves up for a home clash against seventh-ranked Athletic Club.
Athletic Club chasing Euro qualification
While a top-four finish seems to be well out of reach for Athletic Club, they are still right in the hunt for a Europa League qualification spot.
The Basque Country side are just a point behind Celta De Vigo and four points behind fifth-ranked Sevilla. A win on Sunday would lift them into sixth place heading into the final 10 games.
Los Leones are coming into this game on the back of a 4-1 win at home to Deportivo La Coruna. Prior to that they cruised to a 3-0 win away to Valencia.
Team news
Guerrero, Bernardo Espinosa and Alberto Garcia are all unavailable for the home side.
Meanwhile, Ernesto Valverde will have to make do without Boveda, Inaki Williams and Ibai.
