Premier League preview and odds: Manchester City vs Stoke City

March 08, 2017 20:00 pm - Etihad Stadium

Premier League

Manchester City can reclaim second place in the Premier League with a home win against ninth-ranked Stoke City on Wednesday night. The visitors meanwhile, will be out to strengthen their hold on ninth spot.

City looking to maintain heat on league leaders

A run of four-straight wins with just one goal conceded has kept Manchester City`s slim title hopes alive. A win Wednesday night would lift them back into second place in the table with 11 games left to play.

Pep Guardiola`s men have tricky run of Premier League games coming up as they host Liverpool at the Etihad followed by back-to-back trips to Arsenal and Chelsea, so victory against Stoke would send them into that sequence on a high.

Manchester City have scored at least one goal in all of their home games and conceded in all but two of them. In total, 67% of their games at the Etihad have produced over 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, Stoke City will arrive in Manchester having lost five of their last six away games in the league. Their only away win in that run came at bottom-of-the-table Stoke City. However, their overall form has seen them rise back up into their favoured ninth-spot in the table.

Team news

The home side will once again be without the injured pair of Gabriel Jesus (metatarsal fracture) and Ilkay Gundogan (knee).

Meanwhile, Bruno Martins Indi (knee), Xherdan Shaqiri (calf strain), Jack Butland (ankle) and Stephen Ireland (double leg fracture) are all unavailable for the visitors.
