Andy Murray vs Fabio Fognini- Wimbledon Third Round Preview and Odds
July 07, 2017 16:30am - Wimbledon
Wimbledon Championships Mens Tennis
Andy Murray will look to secure his presence in week two of the Wimbledon Championships when he takes on Fabio Fognini on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Italian will be aiming to beat Murray for the second time in 2017.
The World No. 1 eased past German Dustin Johnson in the last round and seems to have overcome the hips problems that overshadowed his preparations for this event. He arrives here having yet to drop a set and is looking sharper than he has for quite a few weeks.
Fognini saw off the challenges of Dimitry Tursunov and Jiri Vesely without dropping a set to book this mouth-watering match-up with the Scot. However, the World No. 29 has yet to make it beyond this stage on the SW19 grass and this is statistically his worst Grand Slam event. On that basis, an upset against the two-time winner and reigning champion looks unlikely here.
Having said that, Fognini has been a bit of a thorn in Murray`s side over the years and boasts a 3-3 record against the 30-year-old, although the two have yet to meet on grass.
Betting odds and tips
Fognini`s win over Murray earlier this year came in his home country and on his favourite surface (clay). This time it is Murray who is playing in front of a home crowd and on his preferred surface so it is no surprise that the defending champ is clear favourite.
With a best price of 1/9 available for Murray to win, there is not much value to be had there. Instead, look at the set betting market where a 3-0 scoreline will offer a more reasonable return.
You can back Murray to win 3-0 at 4/9 with Bet365.
