La Liga preview and odds: Sevilla vs. Real Madrid
November 08, 2015 19:30pm - Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan
La Liga
Fumbling Sevilla are in desperate need of a positive result as they welcome the leagues top performers Real Madrid to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in La Liga on Sunday.
Sevilla stunned by Euro defeat
After losing 2-1 away to Villarreal in the last league game, Unai Emerys team were further humbled by Manchester City in their midweek Champions League game. They must now face the difficult task of taking points of an undefeated Real Madrid team at home on Sunday night.
Despite, a gradual ascent of the league table, the Sevillistas are just three points above the drop zone in 11th place, with four or five teams well-placed to overtake them should they fail to pick up any points this weekend.
The Sevilla Coach will want to take inspiration from their dogged performance back in October when they took all three points from Barcelona in a 2-1 win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Real Madrid can make it four wins in a rows
Rafa Benitezs team remain unbeaten in all competitions and are leading the way in La Liga thanks to their superior goal record. Having won three and drawn four of their ten games so far, Real Madrid have had one of their best starts to a season in recent years. Despite some criticisms of the new Coachs tactics, the results keep coming and the 10-time European champions remian dominant on all fronts.
With league-leading figures of 24 goals scored and just four goals conceded, it is clear that the former Liverpool boss is building his team from the back without compromising on their attacking prowess. The football may not have been as pleasing on the eye as some would have hoped but with a large injury list to manage, Benitez has successfully spun all the plates so far this term.
In their last match, they strolled to a 3-1 home victory over Quique Setiens Las Palmas, thanks to first-half goals from Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Jesé. With Barcelona and Villarreal going head to head on the same day, Benitez will be keen to maintain the pressure on his rivals by bagging all three points.
Team news
Sevilla may have to do without leading scorer Kevin Gameiro who is suffering from a hamstring problem and could join Beto, Daniel Carrico and Nicolas Pareja on the absent list.
Real Madrid will probably not give playing to Benzema after his recent arrest, however, Gareth Bale and Daniel Carvajal could both be available to Benitez. Marcelo is expected to miss out after limping off against PSG, while Keylor Navas is once again a doubt.
