Champions League preview and odds: Roma vs BATE
December 09, 2015 19:45pm - Stadio Olimpico
Champions League
With Leverkusen facing unbeaten Barcelona in the other group game, this match between Roma and BATE Borisov could become a straight showdown for second place in Group E.
Roma looking to bounce back after Barca thrashing
AS Roma suffered a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Barcelona in the last round of matches but can still qualify with a win over BATE in the final game on Wednesday night. With both teams still in with a chance of making the last 16, it should be an exciting encounter at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Rudi Garcia`s men currently occupy second place thanks to a superior record against third-ranked Bayer Leverkusen. A win would guarantee their place in the last 16, but they could also progress with a draw if the Germans fail to beat the reigning champions.
BATE looking to make history
BATE Borisov may be bottom of Group E but they can still grab second place with a win in Italy providing Leverkusen fail to win in the other game. If they can succeed, they will take part in the knockout phase of the competition for the first time in their history.
The Belarusian champions have yet to win a game on the road in this yearÂ’s Champions League campaign, and have lost both of their group stage away games. However, they did defeat Roma in the reverse fixture in the Game Week 2.
Team news
Roma will be without Mohamed Salah and Francesco Totti, while Gervinho remains a doubt as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury.
Meanwhile, BATE have a full strength team to choose from.
