Premier League preview and odds: Sunderland vs Manchester United

February 13, 2016 12:45pm - The Stadium of Light

Premier League

Sunderland will be looking for a positive result on Saturday as they look to keep their survival hopes alive against a Manchester United team striving to stay in touch with the Premier League’s top four.

Sunderland facing tough battle for survival

Despite overturning a two-goal deficit away to Liverpool at the weekend, Sunderland are still no closer to finding safe ground in the Premier League survival race.

The Black Cats are now four points from safety and just four points ahead of bottom club Aston Villa. A win on Saturday would help to ease their situation but would not be enough to lift them out of the danger zone.

In their last home match, they restricted Manchester City to a single goal but were unable to take anything from the game. They will be hoping for more against Manchester`s other team.

United losing touch with top four

A run of just three wins in the last 12 games has seen Manchester United lose ground in the race for the top four. The Red Devils are now six points shy of the Champions League qualification places with 13 games left to play.

Louis van Gaal`s men come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw at Chelsea and prior to that, they strolled to a 3-0 win at home to Stoke City. The Manchester side have now scored in 10 of their 13 away games this season.

Team news

The home side will be without Jeremain Lens, Adam Matthews and Seb Larsson.

Meanwhile, the visitors have half a dozen players on the sick list, with Ashley Young, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Phil Jones, Marcus Rojo, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia all out injured.

Betting odds and tips

United have won just one of their last six away games, while Sunderland have won just one of their last five at home. Sam Allardyce`s men did well against Manchester City and would have been buoyed by the way they responded against Liverpool. They may well grab another point this weekend.
