Chelsea vs Everton - Premier League Preview and Odds
March 08, 2020 17:30pm - Stamford Bridge (London)
Premier League
Chelsea will look to tighten their tenuous grip on fourth place when they welcome former boss Carlo Ancelotti`s Everton to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Meanwhile, a win for the visitors would keep their slim European hopes alive.
A record of just five wins in their last 16 games has put Chelsea`s Champions League hopes in jeopardy. While the Blues have toiled, the chasing pack has slowly narrowed the gap putting at least six teams in contention for fourth place.
Frank Lampard`s men have won just three of their last eight league matches at home and were recently humbled at home by Bayern Munich in the Champions League. However, the FA Cup win over Liverpool provided a welcome boost last time out.
Everton are in the familiar position of battling for position in the middle of the table. Currently ranked 12th, they could return to the top 10 with a win on Sunday.
Despite improved form under Ancelotti, the Toffees are still six points adrift of the first European qualification spot. Yet with 10 games left to play, they could still bridge that gap.
The Blues have won just three Premier League games on the road and all three victories came against teams below them in the table. They have only earned one point away from home against the current top 10.
In 183 competitive meetings between the two, Chelsea have recorded 72 wins compared to 56 for Everton. The Toffees are unbeaten in their last four clashes with their hosts and have only conceded once in that spell. However, their last league win at the Bridge came back in 1994.
Predicted line-ups:
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga Azpilicueta, Zouma, Rudiger, Alonso Gilmour, Barkley, Mount James, Giroud, Pedro
Everton: Pickford Sidibe, Mina, Holgate, Baines Walcott, Gomes, Davies, Sigurdsson Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin
Recent Form (League)
Chelsea: LDDLWD
Everton: DDWWLD
Betting odds and tips
Everton have not fared well away from to teams in the top 10 this season with only one point gained from six matches. And they have a poor league record at Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea have been defeated by the likes of Southampton, West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth on home soil. With that in mind, the Draw looks like the best option.
You can back the Draw at 11/4.
