Gibraltar vs Cyprus - World Cup Qualification Europe Preview and Odds
June 09, 2017 19:45pm - Estadio Do Algarve
World Cup Qualification - Group H
Gibraltar will look to earn their first points of the qualifying campaign when they welcome fourth-ranked Group H side Cyprus to the Estadio Do Algarve on Friday night.
The tournament minnows have lost all five of their games, scoring just two goals while conceding a total of 22. Their closest match of the campaign so far came against Cyprus in the reverse fixture back in November. On that occasion, they fell to a 3-1 scoreline.
With no chance of qualifying for next summer`s event, the main target for the Gibraltarians will be to avoid finishing bottom of the group. However, even that goal looks unrealistic as they are already four points adrift at the foot of the table.
Meanwhile, with Belgium, Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina battling out for the top three places, Cyprus will be aiming to finish in fourth place to claim the best-of-the rest tag in Group H.
They come into this game unbeaten in two having beaten Gibraltar in NicosÃa and drawn against Estonia, also on home soil. Realistically, Estonia will be their only challengers for fourth place so it is vital that they complete the double against the tournaments smallest side.
