Sunderland vs Manchester United - Premier League preview and odds
April 09, 2017 13:30pm - Stadium of Light
Premier League
Sunderland are running out of time in the battle for Premier League survival and must now go up against one of the heavyweights of English football as they face top-four hopefuls Manchester United at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
Sunderland without a home win in 2017
David Moyes will pit his wits against his old team on Sunday as he attempts to steer his side towards safety in the Premier League. The Sunderland boss may not have many happy memories from his time at Old Trafford but his tenure on Wearside looks set to be the worst of his managerial career so far.
The Black Cats are 10 points adrift of safety in the league but do have a couple of games in hand on some of their rivals. A win this weekend would at least give them a straw to clutch at heading into the last seven games.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are still playing catch up in the race for the top four. The 20-time former champions have not lost any of their last 20 league games but have failed to improve on their league position in that time, having remained almost permanently rooted in sixth place.
Jose Mourinho`s men have drawn six of their last nine Premier League matches including their last two in a row. Away from home their form makes much better reading with six wins and two draws in their last eight matches.
The Red Devils are seven points behind their city rivals who currently occupy fourth place but they do have two games in hand. They will probably need to win both of those if they are to stand any chance of booking their place in next season`s Champions League.
Team news
Victor Anichebe (hamstring), Steven Pienaar (calf), Jan Kirchhoff (cartilage), Duncan Whatmore (ACL) and Paddy McNair (knee) are all out injured for the home side.
Meanwhile, the visitors have a few injury issues of their own with Ashley Young (knock), Wayne Rooney (ankle), Juan Mata (groin), Phil Jones (toe) and Chris Smalling (knee) all ruled out..

Betting odds and tips
Sunderland are winless in six and failed to score in any of those matches. They last scored a goal at home in the 1-3 defeat to Stoke City back in January.
Manchester United remain undefeated in their last 20 matches and have won 62% of their matches away from home, scoring at least one goal in all but two (Liverpool and Chelsea).
As a result, the away win to nil looks like the best bet in this one.
