Wimbledon preview and odds: Andy Murray vs Milos Raonic
July 10, 2016 - Wimbledon Mens Final
Andy Murray will be playing in his 11th Grand Slam final when he lines up against major final debutant Milos Raonic at Wimbledon on Sunday.
Murray to start a Grand Slam final as favourite for first time
On Sunday, World No. 2 Andy Murray will start a Grand Slam final against someone other than Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer for the very first time in his career. It will also be the first time that the Scot has started a major final as the bookmakers favourite. As a result, this match will present Murray with perhaps his best chance in the last three years of bagging a third Grand Slam title.
Of course, opponent Milos Raonic will be hoping to spoil the party for Murray and his supporters as he attempts to win a Grand Slam final at the very first attempt.
Both players have been in great form over the last two weeks with Murray looking more positive than ever and Raonic playing the best tennis of his career. The common theme between the two, is that they have both made changes to their coaching staff in recent weeks - with Murray redrafting Ivan Lendl as his head coach and Raonic recruiting John McEnroe as an advisor. Coincidence? Not a chance.
Murray won his first two Grand Slams under the guidance of the eight-time former Grand Slam winner and has yet to lose any of his 11 matches since the Czech returned to the fold. Likewise, Raonic has raised his game to another level since hiring John McEnroe - only Murray defeated him at Queens and only Murray can now stop him at Wimbledon. He has also beaten an ATP Top 3 opponent (Federer) for the first time and has become the first Canadian to make it to a major final.
When the two went head-to-head at Queens recently, it was the Canadian who took the first set, forcing Murray to fight back and claim the win. The two now get the chance to do battle again, this time over five sets and with the ultimate prize at stake.
Betting predictions
Having already avenged his 2014 semi-final defeat to Federer, Raonic will be coming into this match full of confidence and should not be underestimated.
Murray has won the last five meetings between the two but Raonic had the better of their earlier exchanges, winning four of their first six meetings.
When the two met at the Australian Open back in January, it took the full five sets to separate them and that could be the case again on Sunday.
