Premier League preview and odds: Sunderland vs Everton

May 11 , 2016 16:00pm - Stadium of Light

Premier League

Sunderland can confirm their Premier League survival and relegate Newcastle in the process with a win at home to 12th-ranked Everton on Wednesday evening.

Sunderland almost safe

Sunderland have moved to within touching distance of Premier League safety but with just two games left to play, they are still not out of the woods.

Sam Allardyce has struggled to keep his side out of the drop zone since taking over last year but a recent run featuring just one defeat in nine games has lifted them to their current position of safety. A win on Wednesday night would be enough to keep them in the top flight of English football for another year.

The Black Cats come into this game on the back of an impressive 3-2 win over Chelsea in which they came back from 2-1 down at half time to claim maximum points.

A season of disappointment Everton

Everton will play out the penultimate game of what has been a disappointing season when they travel to Sunderland on Wednesday night.

With little left to play for in the league and speculation surrounding his future at the club, boss Roberto Martinez can maybe afford to be a little bolder with his tactics as he tries to convince the hierarchy he is the right man to take the club forward. However, with just one win in their last nine games, many of the Toffees fans have already made their minds up about the Spaniard.

The Merseyside club come into this game on the back of a 3-1 defeat at the hands of league champions Leicester City.

Team news

Sunderland have a full strength squad to choose from for this crucial clash.

Meanwhile, Everton will have to make do without Gerard Deulofeu, Phil Jagielka and Tyias Browning, while Gareth Barry and Seamus Coleman could both return.
