Republic of Ireland vs Austria - World Cup Qualification Europe Preview and Odds
June 11, 2017 17:00pm - Aviva Stadium
World Cup Qualification - Group D
Republic of Ireland will look to extend their unbeaten record in Group D when they host fourth-ranked Austria at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday afternoon. After fielding a youthful squad for the friendly defeat away to Mexico last week, a more familiar line-up resumed responsibility for the follow up win at home to Uruguay.
Overall, the Republic have performed well since impressing at Euro 2016 and they are now well-place to qualify for yet another major tournament. On home soil they have been particularly dominant, having lost just two of their last 18 at home in all competitions.
Austria`s Euro 2016 showing was not quite as impressive. After winning many admirers during the qualifying campaign for that event, they failed to win a game and scored just a single goal. Their World Cup qualifying campaign has not started well but still at least remain in contention for a play-off place and a win here could give them a massive boost in their quest to make it to Russia next summer.
They Austrians are currently sat in fourth place with a total of seven points, just four behind their second-ranked opponents. When they hosted the Republic of Ireland back November, they fell to a 1-0 defeat.
