Johanna Konta vs Caroline Garcia - Wimbledon Round of 16 preview and odds

July 10, 2017 12:30am - Wimbledon

Wimbledon Championships Women’s Tennis

It is not often that British tennis fans get to cheer on two players in the second week of the Wimbledon Championship but this year both Andy Murray and Johanna Konta continue to fly the flag for the home nations. What`s even more surprising is that Konta starts the week as bookmakers favourite to win the women`s event, while Murray remains fourth favourite in the men`s contest.

With Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova both out of the tournament, the smart money is now on the British No. 1 who continues her Grand Slam quest against Caroline Garcia on Monday. Garcia looks to be in the form of her career having already reached the French Open quarter finals this year before making it to the second week here for the very first time without dropping a set. Garcia saw off the challenge of Madison Brengle in the last round but she has yet to face a player of Konta`s quality in this year`s tournament.

After her epic battle with Donna Vekic, Konta would have been relieved to have taken just one hour and 16 minutes to dispose of Maria Sakkari in the third round. With the crowd firmly behind her she now has a great chance of going all the way but with the expectations of a nation on her shoulders, she will now be enduring levels of pressure that she has rarely been used to in her career so far,

A win on Monday would set up a tasty looking quarter-final against either Simona Halep or Victoria Azarenka and Konta looks ready to step up to the plate.

Betting odds and tips

Garcia came out on top when these two last met on the hard courts of Indian Wells and she has improved dramatically on grass in recent weeks.

Likewise, Konta is looking extremely comfortable on this surface and a close contest should be expected. However, the British player can be expected to prevail but she might need all three sets to do it.

You can back Konta to win 2-1 at 11/4 with Bet365.
