Rafa Nadal vs Gilles Muller - Wimbledon Round of 16 preview and odds
July 10, 2017 12:30am - Wimbledon
Wimbledon Championships Mens Tennis
Rafa Nadal`s remarkable return to form will continue as he takes to the court against Gilles Muller on Monday afternoon having lost just one of his last 28 matches. The Spaniard has not made it beyond the fourth round here since 2011 when he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final.
With the sun beating down and the courts drying out nicely, the surface will be much more to his liking during this second week and he must be considered a serious threat for the title. The World No. 2 has lost just one of his last 17 Grand Slam matches and has not dropped a set in any of the last 10, although Karen Khachanov did have one set point chance in the match prior to this.
His opponent loves to play on grass but does not have a great record at Wimbledon having never previously made the second week. However, his recent win in S`hertogenbosch and semi-final appearance at Queens will have given him a massive confidence boost ahead of this tournament.
The 34-year-old has never been ranked higher in his career (26) and has taken 11 top-10 scalps since he appeared on the scene in 2004. Remarkably, he beat Nadal here back in 2005, when the Spanish star was ranked No. 4 in the world.
Betting odds and tips
Nadal boasts a 5-1 record over the Luxembourger, the only defeat coming 12 years ago. As a result, there is little chance of an upset here, despite the resurgent form and strong grass court game of the challenger.
The Spaniard has not dropped a set in a Slam since Australia and that trend can be expected to continue here.
You can back Rafa Nadal to win 3-0 at 4/6 with Bet365.
