West Bromwich Albion vs AFC Bournemouth - Premier League Preview and Odds
August 12, 2017 15:00pm - The Hawthorns
Premier League
West Bromwich Albion enjoyed yet another average season in the Premier League last term, easing to a 10th place finish without too much fuss. They begin their new campaign at home to fellow mid-table side AFC Bournemouth, who have now fully consolidated their position as a top-half Premier League side.
The Baggies looked much better going forward last year, with Salomon Rondon and Nacer Chadli leading their attacking line. They have strengthened even further this time round adding Southampton`s Jay Rodriguez to their roster.
However, Tony Pulis` men have not looked convincing in pre-season, losing to Slavia Pargue, Leicester City and Crystal Palace before beating Burton and Walsall. They followed that up with a run of four games featuring defeats to Slough, Bristol Rovers and Deportivo La Coruna and a draw away to Port Vale.
Bournemouth pipped West Brom to ninth place in the league last term and are enjoying their new-found status as a top 10 Premier League club. They have since bolstered their defence with the signing of Nathan Ake from Chelsea and Asmir Begovic has arrived between the sticks. Up front, Jermain Defoe brings a wealth of experience and a genuine goal threat, as well as support for the likes of Callum Wilson.
This game will be a good test for the Cherries as they seek to improve their performances on the road. Last term, they only managed three wins on the road and conceded far too many goals. If they can address that this term, they might even push for a place in the top seven.

Betting odds and tips
West Brom won eight of their first 13 matches at the Hawthorns last term and should prove tough to beat once again. However, they have never been big goal scorers and another low goal count should be expected here.
Meanwhile, AFC Bournemouth have strengthened their spine and there should be little to separate the two teams. Cherries boss Eddie Howe would probably take a point from this game right now.
