Chelsea vs Newcastle United - Premier League Preview and Odds
January 12, 2019 15:00pm - Stamford Bridge
Premier League
Chelsea`s quest for a top-four finish continues as they welcome a Newcastle side who kick off in 15th place after a four-game winless streak.
The Blues may still have faint hopes of competing for the Premier League title, but with three in-form teams above them, a place in the top four is now a more realistic target.
Maurizio Sarri`s men have faltered on home soil in recent weeks winning just three of their last eight. In their last match at Stamford Bridge, they were held 0-0 by Southampton and prior to that, they lost 0-1 to Leicester City. They failed to score in three of their last five home matches although they only conceded once in that time.
Despite that, the defeat to Leicester remains their only loss at home since they were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur back in April.
Meanwhile, opponents Newcastle United have failed to win any of their last four matches, drawing two and losing two. As a result, Rafa Benitezs men will kick off just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Away from home, they have lost just one of their last six matches (a 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool) having won two and drawn three others. Their only two away wins this season have come against teams below them in the table although they did manage to draw at eighth-ranked Watford and 11th-ranked Everton.

Betting odds and tips
Southampton`s draw at Stamford Bridge 10 days ago will give the Magpies hope. They restricted Manchester City to a 2-1 scoreline earlier in the campaign and will set out to frustrate Sarris men with a regimented defensive display.
Chelsea have failed to find the net in their last two home games and also drew a blank in their midweek League Cup clash against Spurs.
As a result, there is a case to be made that the visitors could sneak a point from this game. And the price of 6/1 for the draw looks good value for a small speculative punt.
You can back the Draw at 6/1.
