Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund - Champions League Round of 16 Preview and Odds

February 13, 2019 20:00pm - Old Trafford

Champions League - Round of 16 - First Leg

Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund will meet for the fifth time in three years as Champions League football returns to Wembley for this Round of 16, first leg clash.

Spurs had a poor start to their campaign, but somehow managed to emerge from Group B thanks to Lucas Moura`s late equaliser in Barcelona which made capital of Inter Milan`s failure to defeat PSV Eindhoven.

Spurs have been in good form since then and are still in contention for the Premier League title, trailing leaders Liverpool by just five points with 12 games left to play.

Danny Rose picked up an injury in their weekend win over Leicester City and will face a late fitness test ahead of this clash, while Harry Kane (ankle), Dele Alli (hamstring) and Ben Davies (groin) will all miss out.

Borussia Dortmund lost just once on their way to topping a group containing Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, Monaco and Club Brugge. What`s more, they currently sit top of the Bundesliga, five points clear of rivals Bayern Munich.

Lucien Favre`s side have played some superb football this term and look all set to end Bayern`s run of six-straight German league titles.

The 1996/97 winners last reached the final under Jurgen Klopp in 2012/13 and have not progressed beyond the quarter-finals since.

They will have to cope without the services of Marco Reus, Julian Weigl, Paco Alcacer and Lukasz Piszczek who are all out of action.

Betting odds and tips

Despite both sides being hampered by injuries, this should still be an entertaining game. The Germans are always inclined to attack, but their defence is also one of their greatest strengths with just two goals conceded in the group stage compared to SpursÂ’ 10.

Spurs will hope that in-form Heung-min Son can find a way through the yellow backline as they attempt to reach the quarter-finals of Europe`s elite tournament for the first time since 2011 and only the third time in their history. However, their opponents are seasoned European campaigners and playing some of the best football on the continent right now. As a result, the draw looks the best Spurs can hope for.

You can back the Draw at 13/5.
