Euro 2016 preview and odds: Germany vs Ukraine
Stade Pierre Mauroy, Lille - June 12, 2016
Group stage - Group C
World champions Germany will kick off their Euro 2016 campaign against 2012 hosts Ukraine in Lille on Sunday afternoon.
Germany defending unbeaten competitive record against Ukraine
German have never been beaten in a competitive match against Ukraine having won two and drawn two of their previous four meetings. The three-time former European champions will feature in their 12th European Championship finals and will be aiming to lift the trophy for the first time since 1996.
The inconsistency of the Germans since their World Cup win has caused some concerns amongst observers. However, Coach Joachim Low has been very experimental in his approach during that time and is hoping that his team will reap the rewards at this event.
Meanwhile, Ukraine will be hoping that their strong physical presence in defence and quick wide players (Yevhen Konoplyanka and Andriy Yarmolenko) can help them to stifle the German machine and hit them on the break.
Form (all competitions):
Germany: WLWLLWLWWW
Ukraine: WWWWDWLWDW
Betting predictions
Ukraine have never beaten Germany and that record is unlikely to be beaten on Sunday. Their conuter-attacking style will only be effective if the Germans are loose in possesion - something that is rare at tournament level.
The World champions are experts at tournament management and should be backed to win their opening fixture.
