Andy Murray vs Sam Querrey - Wimbledon Quarter-finals preview and odds
July 12, 2017 14:00am - Wimbledon
Wimbledon Championships Mens Tennis
Andy Murray will look to follow in the footsteps of fellow Brit Johanna Konta by booking a place in the semi-finals of this year`s Wimbledon championships on Wednesday. But while Konta had to find a way past the World No. 2 Simona Halep, Murray will face the seemingly easier task of squaring up to 28th-ranked Sam Querrey, a player he has beaten seven times in eight previous meetings.
Sam Querrey is appearing in a Wimbledon quarter-final for the second year running - the furthest he has progressed in any Grand Slam event. The American has fluctuated in the rankings throughout his career, peaking at 17 and currently residing inside the top 30. Renowned for his big serve and blistering forehand, he is capable of causing problems for the big names, as he did for Djokovic last year, but has failed to beat Murray since a hard court win in Los Angeles seven years ago.
The 29-year-old has already sent Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Kevin Anderson packing this year, but both matches went the full distance and may have taken their toll.
Meanwhile, Andy Murray will start this game feeling fresh after a routine three sets win over Benoit Paire. The Scot was rarely troubled in that match as Paire struggled with his service. However, he won`t be underestimating the in-form Querrey as he continues his quest for a third Wimbledon crown.
The World No. 1 will need his return game to be on point if he is to gain control of this match early on against the powerful server. When the two met at the Aussie Open earlier this year, the Brit cruised to a three sets win.
Betting odds and tips
Murray is looking in good shape and should have no problem seeing off the challenge of a player who has already endured two tough five setters.
