Gilles Muller vs Marin Cilic - Wimbledon Quarter-finals preview and odds
July 12, 2017 14:00am - Wimbledon
Wimbledon Championships Mens Tennis
With Rafa Nadal now out of the equation, it is now down to his conqueror Gilles Muller and World No. 6 Marin Cilic to battle it out for supremacy in the second quarter of the draw.
Muller`s win over Nadal came as a surprise as many predicted it would be Cilic who might topple the Spaniard. However, the veteran from Luxembourg pulled an epic performance out of the bag at just the right time to ensure that this will be the most successful Wimbledon of his career so far. The win came 12 years after his last victory over Nadal but it may have taken its toll following a gruelling final set that featured 28 games.
Meanwhile, Marin Cilic has quietly gone about his business in this tournament, having yet to drop a set on his way to the fourth Wimbledon quarter-finals appearance. The Croatian has never made it beyond this stage, so this represents a massive opportunity for him to beat his record here.
The 28-year-old former US Open champion is playing some of the most consistent tennis of his career and may only just be entering his peak years. Prior to this tournament he reached the quarter-finals of the French Open for the very first time and beat Gilles Muller on his way to the final at Queen`s Club in London.
Betting odds and tips
Muller took five-hours to defeat Nadal while Cilic eased to a 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Roberto Bautista-Agut in the last round. As a result, the Croatian should have the physical edge in this game. He also has the psychological advantage of having beaten his opponent on grass less than a month ago. . You can back Cilic to win in four sets at 11/4 with Bet365.
