Premier League preview and odds: Tottenham Hotpsur vs West Bromwich Albion

January 14, 2016 13:30pm - White Hart Lane

Referee: A. Taylor

Premier League

With Liverpool not playing until Sunday, third-ranked Tottenham Hotspur can claim second spot (temporarily at least) with a win at home to mid-table regulars West Bromwich Albion. Meanwhile, the visitors can overtake Everton in the mini-contest for seventh place.

Spurs back in title race

A run of eight wins from nine matches in all competitions has given Tottenham Hotspur renewed belief heading into the second half of the season. The Londoners have won their last five Premier League matches in a row and lifted themselves back up to third in the table, just two points behind second-ranked Liverpool.

What`s more, Mauricio Pochettino`s men remain unbeaten at home in the league this season, having won eight and lost two at White Hart Lane, conceding just five goals in the process. They come into this game on the back of a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Third Round of the FA Cup. Prior to that, they beat league leaders Chelsea 2-0 at home in the league, to throw the title race wide open.

Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion will look to bounce back from a disappointing 1-2 FA Cup defeat at home to Derby County by putting in a strong performance in London.

With the top six having pulled away from the rest of the field, Tony Pulis` men are currently battling it out with Everton for seventh place in the league table. A win on Saturday could lift them above the Toffees, who do not play until Sunday.

The Baggies come into the game on the back of consecutive Premier League wins away to Southampton (2-1) and at home to Hull City (3-1). Their normally tight defence has shipped at least one goal in each of their last eight matches.

Team news

Erik Lamela (hip) remains the only absentee for the home side.

Meanwhile, Allan Nyom, Chris Brunt and Jonny Evans are all on the doubtful list for the visitors, while Saido Berahino is still not match fit.

Betting odds and tips

Tottenham have won their last five Premier League matches in a row and are unbeaten at home this term. In addition, they have scored at least one goal in all of their home matches.

Eight of the last 10 meetings between these two sides have produced less than 2.5 goals, with half of them finishing 1-1. In addition, 10 of West Brom last 13 away games have also paid out in the Under 2.5 Goals market.

While it is tempting to back another 1-1 draw at a price of 10/1 with Bet365, Tottenham have now scored two goals or more in their last seven home games and should just edge this one.

You can back Tottenham Hotpsur/Under 2.5 Goals at a best price of 23/10.
