Premier League preview and odds: Newcastle United vs Swansea City
April 16 , 2016 15:00pm - St. James` Park
Premier League
With their Premier League status hanging in the balance, this home clash against Swansea City will be seen as a must-win game for Newcastle United.
Win would give glimmer of hope to Newcastle
Newcastle United are running out of games in which to secure their Premier League status. The northeast club are six points adrift of safety with a game in hand over fellow strugglers Norwich City. A win this weekend would keep their survival hopes alive, while defeat would leave them with an uphill task.
Rafa Benitez has struggled to make an impact in his short time at the helm, with just one point gained from his four games in charge. However, the Spaniard cwuld achieve hero status on Tyneside if he could lead the Magpies to safety.
The good news for the Toon Army is that they have lost just one of their last five matches at home, having won two and drawn the other two.
Swansea eyeing mid-table finish
After fending off the threat of relegation, Swansea City can now set their sights on a mid-table finish. The Welsh side are currently sat in 12th place in the table with a total of 40 points. If they continue their good form, they could even finish in the top half of the table.
The Swans have lost just one of their last six Premier League matches, having won four drawn one and lost the other. Away from home, they have won just two of their last 11 matches, but have scored at least one goal in their last seven.
Team news
The home side still have several injury concerns with Steven Taylor, Daryl Janmaat, Rob Elliott, Massadio Haidara and Tim Krul all out of action, while Fabrico Coloccini and Kevin Mbabu are both doubtful.
The visitors have nearly a full strength squad to choose from with Leon Britton the only doubt.
