Premier League preview and odds: Stoke City vs Tottenham Hotspur
April 18 , 2016 20:00pm - Britannia Stadium
Premier League
Stoke City will continue their quest to better last seasons ninth-place finish when they host title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur at the Britannia Stadium in the Barclays Premier League.
Stoke Euro hopes fading
For a while it appeared as if Stoke City might make a late push for the European qualification places, but a recent run of just one win in five matches has scuppered those ambitions. The Potters are now left with the goal of securing their highest ever finish in the Premier League era.
Mark Hughes` team has finished ninth for the last two seasons running and are currently sat in ninth place once again with five games remaining. They come into this game on the back of a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. Prior to that, they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Swansea City.
Tottenham still in title race
With five games left to play, Tottenham Hotspur are seven points behind league leaders Leicester City. The North London side must keep winning games and hope that their rivals slip up if they are to stand any chance of claiming the Premier League crown.
Last weekend, Mauricio Pochettino`s men grabbed all three points with a win at home to Manchester United thanks to three goals in six minutes in the second half. In their last away fixture, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Liverpool at Anfield.
Team news
Glenn Whelan remains a doubt for the home side who will also be without the crocked trio of Jack Butland, Jon Walters and Marc Wilson.
Meanwhile, Spurs will have to make do without the injured Nabil Bentaleb.
