Euro 2016 preview and odds: Austria vs Hungary

A historic rivalry will be resumed at the Stade de Bordeaux on Tuesday as Austria and Hungary go head-to-head in this Euro 2016 Group F game.

Austria and Hungary have met 137 times since 1902 with the Hungarians leading the overall stats with 66 wins compared to Austrias 40, while 31 games were drawn. However, they have only met once in a tournament final - at the 1934 World Cup - where Austria prevailed 2-1 on their way to the semi-finals.

The sides have not played a competitive match since Hungary won both matches in their 1986 World Cup qualifying group. In their most recent friendly meeting, in 2006, it was the Hungarians who came out on top again winning 2-1 in Graz.

Austria`s only previous appearance at a European Championship finals came as co-hosts back in 2008 when they failed to win a game - this is the first time that they have qualified on their own merit. Marcel Koller`s men are one of only four teams (the others being England, Italy and Romania) who made it through the qualifying stage unbeaten. In total, they have won their last nine competitive games in a row and are unbeaten in 11.

Meanwhile, Bernd Storck`s Hungary are appearing at their first European championships finals since 1972 and their major event since 1986. They booked their ticket to France by overcoming Norway at the play-off stages. The two-time former World Cup finalists will be looking to make the most of their return from the wilderness by beating their old rivals.
