Tournament debutants Iceland will kick off their first major tournament campaign against a Portugal side who are making their sixth consecutive Euro finals appearance.
Newcomers Iceland looking for first win over Portugal
Iceland and Portugal met for the very first time during the qualifying stages of Euro 2012 with Portugal winning both games by 3-1 and 5-3 scorelines respectively.
While Iceland will be making their first appearance at the tournament, Portugal will competing in their seventh edition of the event. They will also be hoping to maintain their record of making it to the knockout stages at every attempt.
Portugal`s finest hour came in 2004 when they made it all the way to the final on home soil before falling unexpectedly to Greece. They will be under pressure to kick off their campaign with a win against a side that has never played at a major tournament.
Meanwhile, Iceland will hoping that the low expectations that have been placed on their shoulders will play to their advantage.
