Premier League preview and odds: Tottenham vs Sunderland
January 16, 2016 12:45pm - White Hart Lane
Premier League
After slipping up at home to Leicester in midweek, Tottenham will be hoping to get their campaign back on track when they welcome a resurgent Sunderland side to White Hart Lane in the Barclays Premier League.
Spurs suffer third defeat of the season
Spurs missed the chance to close the gap on the league leaders when they fell at home to high-flying Leicester City on Wednesday night. As a result, the Londoners are still in fourth place but are just five points ahead of ninth-ranked Liverpool.
With West Ham and Manchester United ready to pounce, another defeat could see Mauricio Pochettino`s men fall out of the top four this weekend. They have now won just one of their last four games on home soil having beaten Norwich, lost to Leicester and Newcastle, and drawn against Chelsea.
The home recent home defeat to Newcastle serves as a reminder that games against the relegation-threatened teams are by no means easy. In fact, their opponents are coming into this game full of confidence after securing back-to-back wins.
Sunderland making a move
After an awful run of five straight defeats, Sunderland have reignited their Premier League survival prospects with a pair of consecutive wins. Last time out, they beat relegations rivals Swansea 4-2 away from home, and prior to that they defeated all-but-relegated strugglers Aston Villa.
As result, the Black Cats have overtaken their northeast rivals Newcastle, and are now just a single point away from the safety zone.
Team news
The home side will be without Clinton NJie , while Ryan Mason and Alex Pritchard are in line for a return.
Meanwhile, Sunderland are still without Seb Larsson and Adam Matthews, however Younes Kaboul could make his return.
