Stan James Champion Hurdle Preview
March 15, 2016 15:30pm - Cheltenham
Cheltenham Festival
The absence of the Willie Mullins-trained duo of Arctic Fire and reigning champion Faugheen has thrown the betting market wide open for this Champion Hurdle race.
Any dip in quality should be more than compensated for by a rise in competitiveness, and a more entertaining spectacle for the Cheltenham punters.
With those notable names missing, Annie Power has been entered into to the race for the Mullins stable by owner Rich Ricci. The mare has already been backed heavily and certainly has what it takes to compete at the sharp end of this race.
Willie Mullins also has a great chance with Nichols Canyon, who has already bagged six Grade 1 wins in his career, including a victory over Faugheen in November. The super-consistent six-year-old might just upset the stable favourite in this race.
Another horse worth looking at is My Tent Or Yours. Despite a two-year absence, the Nicky Henderson-trained nine-year-old is back in good shape and has Festival form. He could be worth a punt providing the price is right. Anything above 10/1 would make a Win or Each-Way bet a fair value option.
Another horse worth looking at in the Each-Way market is the Neil King-trained Lil Rockerfeller. The five-year-old has been training well, and is coming into form at the right time. At 33/1, there is plenty of value to be had by putting faith in the youngster.
Betting odds and tips
Annie Power will lead the betting but Nichols Canyon catches the eye and can be backed at 11/2 with Bet365.
In the Each-Way market, My Tent Or Yours is tempting but Lil Rockerfeller offersthe best value at 33/1 with Bet365.
