JT McNamara National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders` Novices` Chase Preview - Cheltenham Festival

March 14, 2016 16:50pm - Cheltenham

Cheltenham Festival

Distance: 3m 7f 170y

Grade: 2 (Class 1)

Purse: £120,000

Winner: £71,952

Going: Good to Soft

A Genie In ABottle looks like real contender here and even a second place finish against decent opposition at Naas back in January hasn`t dampened the enthusiasm for the Irish entry. The Noel Meade-trained bay gelding jumps and stays well and certainly makes the shortlist.

Edwulf was victorious at Naas last time out and but has a couple of falls on an otherwise impressive record. He also seems to prefer softer ground so the conditions might not suit him - as a result, there is a slight question mark beside his name. However, those issues could be resolved by having a top jockey in the saddle and the distance should not be a problem.

Another name to consider is Tiger Roll, who has some competitive wins to his name and has course experience.

Meanwhile, Beware the Bear looks ready for the step-up in trip on Tuesday afternoon. Touted as a future Welsh National winner, the Nicky Henderson-trained impressed when beating a decent field over 2m7f at Newbury and will head into this fresh and well prepared. He travels and jumps well and looks good value at 7/1.
