Ultima Handicap Chase Preview - Cheltenham Festival
March 14, 2016 14:50pm - Cheltenham
Cheltenham Festival
Distance: 3m 1f
Grade: 3
Class: 1
Purse: £105,000
Winner: £59,798
Going: Good to Soft
This opening day handicap race features a field of 24 runners and should appeal to those looking for each-way bets at big prices on day one.
The stats favour seven-year-olds who have had 3-4 previous outings and one horse that ticks that box is early favourite Singlefarmpayment, who is available at a best price of 6/1. He has already beaten Label des Obeaux on this course at equal weight (December) and will be 6lb better off here.
Another horse that does not quite fit the stats profile but has caught the eye is big-priced Go Conquer (22/1 with Bet365). The eight-year-old was second at Kempton in December (off 1 lb lower) and should not be judged by his last effort at Ascot when his was out-paced by the in-form Tenor Nivernais.
The afore-mentioned Label des Obeaux comes into this race on the back of two decent runs (Exeter and Ludlow) and should be involved if he can continue to jump well.
Meanwhile, Noble Endeavor may have attracted some interest thanks to his handicap win at Leopardstown over Christmas. However, his fall in 2016`s National Hunt Chase combined with his extra weight has him crossed off our short list.
The Druids Nephew won this back in 2015 and looks to have been saved for this race. His trainer is in form and will hoping that the ground is not too soft on Tuesday. If the conditions are right, the 10-year-old could be worth an each-way bet at a best price of 9/1.
Betting odds and tips
With some big prices available and a large field, it is worth sticking to the each-way market in this race.
Singlfarmpayment can be backed each-way at a best price of 6/1, while 2015 champ, The Druids Nephew looks well-priced at 9/1 with Bet365.
Those looking for a big-priced outsider could do worse than put a small stake on Go Conquer at 22/1 with Bet365.
Remember, Bet365 are offering guaranteed best odds on all Cheltenham races and a 100% deposit bonus up to £200 for new accounts.
