Few horses can boast a Cheltenham Festival record as impressive as Cause of Causes. With a second place and three victories in four appearances, it is no wonder that he is the top tip for Wednesday`s Cross Country Chase. Jamie Codd rode him to victory last year and will take to the saddle once again for this one, the duo seemingly perfectly-matched. Both Bless the Wings and Auvergnat watched from behind 12 months ago as the 10-year-old left a decent field in his tracks.
Punters have had a good record here over the years, so it`s always worth backing those at the top of the betting pile. Cause of Causes was a 4/1 shot last year and will probabaly short just short of that this time. But even at 7/2, he looks good value considering his pedigree.
Josie`s Orders won here in 2016 but it is hard to see him repeating the feat in this field. A better contender could be Tiger Roll who won last year`s National Hunt Chase and has two Cheltenham wins to his name. He came in behind Josie`s Orders back in December but the course and conditions will suit him much better here. One for the each-way punters.
Here`s a quick look at the past winners, the latest odds and our top tip of the race.
