The Day Three action kicks off with the 2m4f JLT Novice Chase which takes place on the Cheltenham New Course.
Since its inception in 2011, this race has been dominated by Irish runners with seven of the eight winners hailing from the Emerald Isle. The three-year winning run of the Mullins/Walsh combo was brought to end last year by trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Jack Kennedy who claimed victory with Shattered Love.
Catching the eye this year is the Colin Tizzard-trained Lostintranslation. He finished seventh in last year`s Supreme Novices` and beat Defi Du Seuil over this course and distance in the Dipper Novices` Chase. He also impressed when chasing home the unbeaten La Bague Au Roi at Newbury. Packed with stamina and strength, the course and conditions should suit him perfectly.
Defi Du Seuil won the Triumph Hurdle in 2017 and got the better of Lostintranslation at Sandown last time out. Vinndication came in third that day having struggled with the soft ground. All three should be in contention again, but Colin Tizzards horse seems better suited to the Cheltenham New Course and just gets the nod.
Kildisart arrives here on the back on two wins including a course and distance triumph last time out. And with prices of around 9/1 available, he makes it onto the each-way list.
Willie Mullins has a great track record here, so Reel Steel should not be overlooked. This is a horse with great potential who arrives on the back of a solid pair of wins at Fairyhouse and Thurles. At 13/2 he is another on to consider in the each-way market.
