La Liga preview and odds: Las Palmas vs Sporting Gijon
April 16, 2016 18:15pm - Estadio de Gran Canaria
La Liga
In-form Las Palmas will be looking to make it four La Liga wins in a row when they take on relegation-threatened Sporting Gijon on Saturday.
Six wins in seven for Las Palmas
After spending most of the season in and around the drop zone, Las Palmas have now risen to tenth in La Liga. The Canary Islanders have won six of their last seven games and are currently sat on a total on 39 points. As a result, they are almost certain to retain their top-flight status for another year.
Since taking over the club at the end of October, Coach Quique Setien has led the club to 10 league victories including their first wins on the mainland in over 15 years. In their last match, they secured an impressive 3-1 win away from home at Deportivo La Coruna.
Sporting struggling for goals
Sporting Gijon have failed to score a single goal in five of their last six La Liga games. If they are going to escape the clutches of relegation, they will need to start finding the net once again.
This season, much of the goal-scoring burden has been placed on the shoulders of young strikers Arnaldo Sanabria and Carlos Castro - who have managed a total of 18 between them - with 19-year-old midfielder Alen Halilović adding another three. If those three can get firing again, they may have a chance of staying up.
The Asturians have won just one of their last 11 league games, having drawn four and lost the other six. They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to Celta de Vigo.
Team news
The home side will be without the injured group of Javier Garrido, Wakaso Mubarak, Hernan and Javi Castellano.
Meanwhile, Alex Barrera, Canella, Alex Menendez and Bernardo Espinosa are all out injured for the visitors, while Nacho Cases is suspended.
