Sporting Gijon are one of three clubs battling for one remaining survival spot in La Liga. A win will only secure their safety if Getafe fail to win at Real Betis.
Sporting going for the win
Sporting Gijon`s La Liga fate is out of their hands. All they can do is win their game at home to Villarreal and hope that other results go their way.
A run of eight games featuring three wins, three draws and just two defeats has not been enough to lift Sporting clear of danger - however, they have at least given themselves a chance of staying up on the final day.
They come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw at Getafe last week - a result that could come back to bite them if the teams finish level on points. Prior to that, they secured an important 2-0 win at home to Eibar. Fourth place guaranteed for Villarreal
Villarreal will definitely be playing in the qualifying round of next season Champions League after securing fourth place in La Liga. Despite their lofty position in the league, the club has had a poor finish to the season, having won just one of their last five league matches. In addition, they were dumped out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage by English side Liverpool.
Last time out, they fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Deportivo La Coruna. However, they did win their last away game - a 2-0 triumph at Valencia.
Team news
Nacho Cases is suspended for the home side, who will also be without the injured trio of Omar Mascarell, Daniel N`Di and Bernardo Espinosa.
Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Tomas Pina, Mateo Musacchio and Juame Costa.
