Premier League preview and odds: West Ham United vs Burnley
December 14, 2016 19:45pm - London Stadium
Premier League
West Ham United will attempt to break a six-game winless streak when they take on Premier League new boys Burnley at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.
Hammers out of drop zone
West Ham United hauled themselves out of the drop zone with a hard-fought draw at Liverpool last weekend. The Londoners rode their luck at times but kept themselves in the game and the effort and commitment was clear to see.
Slaven Bilic`s men now have a great chance to return to winning ways when they host the league`s worst travellers at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Hammers have not won any of their last six Premier League matches and just one of their last six at home. As a result, they remain firmly entrenched in the lower reaches of the league table.
Meanwhile, Burnley will be hoping to secure back-to-back wins in the league for the first time this season when they make the long trip south on Wednesday night. Victory would also help them to shake off their status as the joint-worst away team in the division.
Sean Dyche`s men made it three home wins in four when they edged to a 3-2 win over Bournemouth at the weekend but they have yet to record a win on the road. In fact, they have picked up just one point and scored just one goal on their travels this term.
Key stats
- West Ham United have failed to win any of their last six matches.
- Burnley failed to score in all but one of their away matches.
- 16 of Burnley`s 17 points have been earned at home.
- 14 of Burnley`s 15 goals have been scored at home.
The home side`s recent problems have not been helped by ongoing injury issues and this week is no exception. The current crocked list includes James Collins (muscle), Diafra Sakho (hamstring), Reece Oxford (ankle), Gokhan Tore (quadricep) and Sam Byram (thigh), while Cheikhou Kouyate is also a doubt with a groin problem.
Meanwhile, the visitors will have virtually a full-strength squad to choose from with Johann Gudmundsson (hamstring) the only absentee.
Recent form (League):
West Ham United: DLDLD
Burnley: WLLLW
Betting odds and tips
West Ham have been fairly poor at home but they have at least picked up two wins and two draws in their seven matches. In stark contrast, Burnley have been woeful away from home and have failed to find the net in five of the six games they have played.
This could be a great chance for the Hammers to break their winless streak and keep their first clean sheet in six matches.
