Manchester City`s defeat to Chelsea last week means they now find themselves playing catch up in the Premier League title race. A win over Everton on Saturday would see them return to the top of the pile on a temporary basis at least with leaders Liverpool not in action until Sunday.

Under any normal circumstances, the Sky Blues` record of 13 wins, two draws and one defeat would be enough to see them top of the Premier League after 16 games. But somehow they still find themselves in second place thanks to Liverpool`s exemplary start to the campaign.

Pep Guardiola`s men have won their last nine Premier League matches in a row scoring 33 goals and conceding just six in the process. Overall, they have lost just two of their last 49 home matches in the league, once to Chelsea and once to Manchester United, so they will be massive favourites to beat the visitors this weekend.

If Everton were to pull off an unlikely win they would be doing their arch rivals Liverpool a massive favour. The Reds are just one point clear of City and face Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. The Toffees could overtake United if both Merseyside teams win this weekend.

The bad news is, Marco Silva`s men have won just two of their last seven Premier League matches and just one of their last eight on the road. However, the 0-0 draw they secured at Stamford Bridge will give them some hope. Ironically, their boldest performance of the season came at Anfield where they looked to be on course for a point before a catastrophic mistake from Jordan Pickford gifted the win the their neighbours.

Betting odds and tips

Everton have not won at the Etihad in eight years and face a City team that remains imperious at home. However, the Merseyside club have come away with a point on each of their last two visits and will make life difficult for their hosts again.

The Toffees have failed to find the net on their last two away games so a home Win to Nil looks the best bet here.
