JLT Novices` Chase Preview - Cheltenham Festival
March 15, 2018 13:30pm - Cheltenham
Cheltenham Festival
Distance: 2m 3f 198y
Grade: 1
Runners: 10
Winner: £85,425
Going: Heavy (soft in places)
This race has been won by the Willie Mullins stable in four of the last six renewals including the last three in a row with Yorkhill, Black Hercules and Vautour. They are in with a great chance of making that four consecutive victories as Invitation Only, who impressed in the Flogas Chase at the Dublin Festival, will start as favourite here. A horse that is in that kind of form and still showing signs of progress is hard to back against but it won`t be all plain sailing for Ruby Walsh`s mount.
Out to give Invitation Only a run for his money is Terrefort. The Nicky Henderson-trained talent is in great form and comes here on the back of a Grade 1 win at Sandown last time out. Henderson hasnt had a winner in this event but has come close on several occasion and there is a feeling that this horse could end that run. He certainly looks decent value with a price of 9/2 available at time of writing.
Each-way punters could do worse that look at 9/1 entry Benetar. He looked impressive on his chasing debut at Ascot and has remained unbeaten since then. Last time out he beat Finian`s Oscar by short head in the Noel Novices` Chase and could step up again here.
