Mares Novices Hurdle Preview - Cheltenham Festival
March 15, 2018 16:50pm - Cheltenham
Cheltenham Festival
Distance: 2m 179y
Grade: 2
Runners: 16
Winner: £ 51,225.00
Going: Heavy (soft in places)
Nicky Henderson-trained Countiser has justified her price tag in three outings since arriving from France. She began with a second place in a decent field at Newbury which included Cap Soleil and followed that with Class 3 wins at Doncaster and Sandown. She looked to have plenty in reserve and looks more than ready to step up in class. With a price of 16/1 available at time of writing, each-way punters should take note.
Cap Soleil has had a good start to her hurdle career with two wins from three and will be looking to build on that here. Won narrowly at Haydock last time out even though the condition were far from ideal and the heavy going might go against her again here. Having said that, if the ground does firm up a little she will be one of the smoothest runners in the race.
Laurina has improved since her two outing in France last spring and has landed two wins for her new yard since including a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse in January. The stable have won here twice already and really fancy their chances with this one.
