Ryanair Chase Preview - Cheltenham Festival
March 15, 2018 14:10pm - Cheltenham
Cheltenham Festival
Distance: 2m 4f 166y
Grade: 1
Runners: 7
Winner: £199,325.00
Going: Heavy (soft in places)
Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh have dominated this race over the last two years and are back with last year¡s winner Un De Sceaux who will be taking on 2013 victor Cue Card. Just six horses will start and a case can be made for all of them. However, the race does favour front runners so Cue Card must be considered in that respect. He impressed when second to Waiting Patiently in a storming race at Ascot last month and if he can bring that form here, he will be in with a chance.
If he does take the initiative, there will be plenty of talent chasing him down with Un De Sceaux and Frodon both strong contenders. But the heavy ground could catch a few out and bring the bigger-priced entries into the equation. Of those, Cloudy Dream still looks capable of putting in a big performance and is likely to stay on if others find the going too tough. And at a price of 12/1, he looks like the value bet of the field.
